L E T T E R from Jac – Taoist Tuesday

There are so many ways to unpack this. The essence of it is to align with nature. When we align with the natural rhythms of every situation, and the larger situation at hand it gives us the grace to allow things to run their natural course. We release control. We recognise that although we might ‘want’ for something to happen a certain way, within a time frame we think we need, lie is better when we allow things to flow. Too often we control, micromanage and demand.

Instead of forcing, we can recognise that the universe is at work, and that there are things/events that are taking place we might not have full knowledge of. This is a soft approach to our lives, to be fluid like water. It is not wishy-washy and woo-woo. It is graceful, smooth and will be a mystery to others as to how it all seems so seamless, when we work with the laws of nature, and collaborate with the universe.

We can ask ourselves, where am I controlling and forcing? Where can I look to nature to have inspiration to allow things to take their natural course? Where can I be fluid and flowing with my life?

If you want to shrink something,
you must first allow it to expand.
If you want to get rid of something,
you must first allow it to flourish.
If you want to take something,
you must first allow it to be given.
This is called the subtle perception
of the way things are.

The soft overcomes the hard.
The slow overcomes the fast.
Let your workings remain a mystery.
Just show people the results.

This is verse 36 of the Tao Te Ching.
