L E T T E R – The Difference Between Planning And Surrender

The Letter I wrote the other day about the need for planning and our common misunderstanding that planning depletes our being in the present moment got a tonne of responses from you guys, with lots of questions. Perhaps it’s a very big time of year for planning and everyone is open to shifting their mindsets? Anyway, I’m going to pop down some more ideas into short points, because you know, the beach is calling!

– Planning is brilliant, required and provides excellent clarity, the key is to not get attached to the outcome of the plans (that’s the part we can’t control).

– I like to think of it all as a collaboration with the universe, I do my part with thinking creatively, staying enthusiastic and then I had it over to nature to deal with what happens next. Staying open and receptive to the universe’s role and not getting cranky and cracking the shits is an important part of any collaboration.

– Surrendering therefore to what happens after the plans have been made is vital. Just because you made a plan doesn’t mean it’s going to happen that way. I mean seriously, when does that EVER happen anyway.

– We used to have a line in Public Relations which was ‘we are in PR not ER’ because sometimes things got taken too seriously. Perhaps you are in the role of literally saving human lives, but day to day for the rest of us, we’re attending to other things, so let’s keep a grip on that, as taking things too seriously absolutely blocks up the creative process.
