What we did in 2017

The Broad Place have spent 12 months researching, exploring and developing this insanely beautiful Southern Indian Retreat so that you can join us for transformation in September 2017. Together we will explore Kerala and it’s many natural beauties over 10 languid days. This will be a Retreat to nourish the body and spirit and rejuvenate the mind. Kerala is the home of Ayurveda, set amongst tropical beaches and the famous backwaters, a truly idyllic setting for relaxtion. As with all of The Broad Place Retreats, attention to detail is our strength, and a passion for creating truly incredible experiences.

All of The Broad Place Retreats fill to capacity rapidly, and this Retreat has limited places available due to the high grade nature of the experience so please read on and book as early as you can to avoid disappointment.

First we begin in the backwaters of Kerala in an ecological resort, with mansions over 150 years old, scared forest groves and a reverence for nature and biodiversity unlike anything else. Criss crossing canals with shimmering water are through and around the entire property of 33 acres, 8 acres of which has been given over to medicinal rice cultivation. Arriving by boat is the only way to reach this luscious resort, with banks decked with wildflowers. Upon arriving you will be greeted with a cool beverage and taken to your room filled with traditional furnishings made by local craftsmen to settle in. Over the next 6 nights, you will first have a one on one consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor, and Abhyanga massages to release tension and allow the mind and body to reconnect. More than a massage, Abhyanga is a therapeutic experience. Also additional treatments can be experienced as little or as often as you wish! Relaxation here is highly encouraged to work out fatigue and tension from your daily life and the trip to India itself. The food is something else, and you will enjoy local and organic for at each meal. the most authentic, home-cooked Kerala food on a banana leaf. Expect genuine fish curry with bones in it, tapioca with crushed bird’s eye chili and more, a true Keralan dining experience. There is a lake side grill with fresh seafood locally caught to be enjoyed, and a wood fired hot clay oven with fish cooked straight out of the sea. You can explore the gardens, meet the chefs and wander through the butterfly garden. Napping in hammocks, lounging with friends and exploring the huge property are all recommended.

Daily yoga classes with be hosted in the fresh air by a hand picked yoga teacher. A course in meditation will be hosted by Jac Lewis within this time, if you wish to learn a life long practice of meditation in the home of Vedic and Ayurvedic knowledge, then please contact us for more information. In the afternoons and evenings there will be a schedule of knowledge lectures and philosophy classes hosted by Jac. They focus on ancient wisdom for modern living, and there will be of course time for questions and answers so you can dive deeper on integrating this knowledge.

After the six nights are complete, all guests will be transferred to their own personal house boat! A night cocooned in luxury, these ancient floating villas are a must have Keralan experience! Each with their own private chef and butler, you will be dined overlooking the flowing backwaters of Kerala. Think freshly pressed coffee on waking on your own deck overlooking the water and banks and tasty meals with produce picked and caught just for you. An absolute highlight for all.

After the evening on the houseboat, we will be taken to the seaside. Two nights of luxury in a resort situated in a fishermans village. Glowing afternoons on near empty beaches, time spent with Monarch butterflies and wanderings down paths of wildflowers. A time to really get to know yourself. On this property is an organic farm garden and you can explore, help out and learn. The food is renowned here, with local spices, fish caught daily served in curries in coconut bowls, and coconut cocktails to be enjoyed by the water.
