I am so grateful for my lowest of lows. They formed and shaped me in ways I couldn’t ever possibly have recognised in the darkness that they were at the time. I also love people who have been through some darkness and waded out of it too. There’s something deeper about them you can feel. Even more so when they share with you what it was, what they learnt, how it transformed them.
Maybe it’s the gift of being a meditation teacher, but I have had the privilege of teaching truly remarkable people. People that are insanely successful. Ridiculously attractive people. People with idyllic looking lives. People you would look at on Instagram and swoon with wanting their life. And when I get to know them, they share that they have had their darkest nights rolled into months, haunt them. They’re not invisible to the human condition at all.
As humans I think it’s rare we get out of this one. So why don’t we all stop pretending. What if we celebrated the glimmers, instead of putting a filter over them? I’m not saying everyone starts oversharing. But I do think that ‘I’m fine’ spoken through gritted teeth, or ‘posting as boasting’, when it’s far removed from reality doesn’t help us as individuals or anyone around us.
Sent with love,
