One of my favourite Buddhist concepts is Don’t Know Mind. It’s about not allowing the mind to constantly jump to conclusions. These conclusions when we break it down, are based on old ideas anyway, as the mind only knows old information not new. And personally, I am so tired of hearing that rock-solid ‘science’ has now actually been proved incorrect (and I wonder will that happen yet again on that conclusion!). It’s about being present, and not formulating the future. It’s about being here for what is, with an open mind, instead of ruminating constantly on the past.
Don’t know mind is about being comfortable with not knowing the answer. In the Information Age, this goes against everything we experience, with the quickest of movements Google or Siri can inform us, so why ever not know? When in a discussion, why admit to having no idea, and look like a fool?
Because to always know, is to lose curiosity. To always know, is the death of discovery. When we have don’t know mind, everything is possible, infinite and expansive.
