What’s holding us back most of the time is our overwhelming list of things to do. Mine can feel crippling. I work with so many students and businesses around the world in multiple time zones, with a daughter and family and run my own business. Like so many people. No one is ‘busier’ than anyone else and we must banish the concept of busy.
There are no excuses, just the ones we create for ourselves. By constantly mentally trolling all that we have to do.
One of the best pieces of advice I heard in regards to making progress on the ‘list’ is simply to not focus on ‘ticking it off’, but on ‘making progress’. So instead of freaking out with all that’s on there, you pick something and just try to move the needle a little bit. It helps to pick the thing you really are trying to avoid doing and do that right away, as the rest is so much easier after that.
It’s not actually having completed something in an exhausted mess that makes us feel a sense of accomplishment, it’s the regular and constant stream of success of working on it. When we avoid it, dodge it, cry over it, and stress, it simply creates more of that for us. When we systematically do a little each day, and the flow that creates, creates more flow.
Start immediately.
