L E T T E R from Jac – Learning’s From A Pandemic Part 1

I thought I would share some of the beauty in what I am learning personally, and what I am learning from others, over a mini series of Letters. My favourite question at the moment when talking with people is ‘what is the one thing more valuable than any other that you want to take with you into the new normal’.

For me that answer has a multitude of answers, but distilled into the most important it’s the importance of community. I have seen our Broad Place community help us more than I thought possible, from people I know to people I don’t know, offering help, love, and offers that have brought my heart back online at times I doubted.

Friends in London have connected with their street through What’s App groups, helping each other in profound ways daily. People they previously never knew whatsoever. I have heard of neighbours rallying together to support children going through chemo alone now, with drive by’s and whooping, who previously learned quietly from a neighbour what was happening. Colleagues reaching out to others, who once were cold and distant, now raw and vulnerable and connecting to each other. Small talk and chit chat seems to have dissolved into deeper conversations whilst we all muddle our way through our lives right now, in a weird hybrid of activity and pause.

The one thing above others is people sharing that they have felt more love and connection to other humans than ever before. For this, I am grateful. I don’t want to go back to the ‘old normal’ and lose this, and I am sure you don’t either, but it’s up to you and I to keep creating it.

Sent with love,

Jac x
