I was once taught an analogy that I have carried around with me since from Taoism. It is that when you have strong emotions hit you, you imagine you are within a body of a river. You understand that everything must flow. So rather than trying to cling to the river banks, resisting, or even building a dam to stop the flow of water, you allow everything to flow through you and around you.
If we allow it to run its course, rather than resisting, it is in alignment with nature, and therefore can continue its journey. When we resist and create tension, or over analyse and engage the thinking mind too much, fluidity is lost.
