Yesterday Arran and I bumped into a friend Dan, who owns a cafe here in Byron with his wife, and we chatted hospitality and pivoting and all the new kinds of conversations that life brings up now. Dan said something really interesting, which Arran and I have been discussing, which was wouldn’t it be amazing if we could have all planned for this, and the whole world was actually taking some time off within this. We chatted about all the positive things that have been happening, in and amongst the epic challenges, and thought, wouldn’t a Planet Sabbatical once a decade be wonderful. Where no one travelled, and did everything local, and lived quietly and humbly across the entire planet, but planned for it, and it wasn’t off the back of a pandemic. What might that look like? I love these kinds of juicy conversations as now we have truly look at what might be, if not for the planet but for ourselves, our families, our businesses.
Stefan Sagmeister the famous graphic designer takes a year off every seven years, his entire business, just for the pursuit of creativity, something Arran and I have always spoken of doing, but haven’t actualised it. If now is not a time that we can rewrite how we want to live, than I don’t know what is. What will you have the guts to do moving forward?
