Ram Dass really brought home the message ‘Be Here Now’. In fact, it was the title of his pivotal book, of the same title, that has inspired decades of people to understand what it is to be in the present moment. When we experience anxiety, we get further and further from the present moment. I have suffered anxiety most of my life, in varying waves. And the whirlwind of thoughts, pounding heart and general escalation of perceived problems with it are not a fun experience.
As Ram Dass explains, asking ‘Where Am I; Here. What Time Is It; Now’ brings us back to the reality of what’s really in this moment, and dissolves the stress of the past and the fear of the future. Saying it until we can hear it, truly hear it, feel and be within it, is the key part.
