I looked at my Calendar yesterday (you may or may not know how much I live by my Calendar!) and there were limited blank spots in the lead up to Christmas. I imagine for many of you, you have the same thing happening. It’s time to leave those blanks, to create appointments with ourselves.
The deliberate cultivation of space in our lives is one of the most important things we can do for our sanity in a world that is already cramming in so much in. I have a mentor I work with, Trine, and she asked me also yesterday in our session, how was I going with my ‘integration time‘? This was a commitment I made to create time in my weeks to study, sit in nature, listen to some old lectures by one of my teachers, and extend my meditation practice. Which in the grind of daily life can sometimes seem a little extravagant, even for me, even though this is ultimately my profession. And I am well aware how uninspired my writing and my teaching gets, when I don’t have enough space to cultivate it properly. But then either some weird guilt sets in about productivity, or too many social things pop up, and family responsibilities snowball, and I fill all the spaces. Do you do the same? We all know how suffocated we feel when we do it.
So I sat down after my session and filled in all the current big gaps with JAC TIME. Just so I am not tempted to fill them up. If like me you have a rubber arm, only to then become overwhelmed, try creating some space just for you. Or come Christmas you will have nothing left to give, in the season of giving.
Written with love,
