Assumptions are a dangerous thing to entertain because they are always based on our own personal world view only. And you know who else thinks exactly like us? No one, that’s who. There are as many world views as there are people on the face of the earth, so in the billions.
Every little experience, every learning, every thought, over our lifetime has shaped us individually to think in a certain way. And from this place, we make assumptions. I’m naturally a huge assumption maker, and I know I’m not alone. It’s taken me years and years of study and practice to re-wire my thinking into a more accepting state, to truly understand the neuroscience of how we think, as well as how consciousness plays a role AND I still get gripped with being offended because someone didn’t behave like I thought they should. Because from my worldview, that behaviour isn’t okay and they ‘should have known better’.
Assumptions are essentially the foundation of all drama. We thought something would be different based on our assumptions. Which we made up anyway. And now we are upset about something we made up.
If you can shine a light onto where in your life you are making assumptions and learn to drop it, life will become a far more delightful place to be within.
