Hands up who wants resilience? Hands up who also would prefer to not do the dirty work to get it? Resilience is like fitness, you have to do the exercise to get it.
I used to study karate, and I was terrible at it, but VERY enthusiastic. My poor Sensei! Karate is incredibly repetitive, it’s through the constant pushing your mind and body within its limits, over and over that you build an instinct for it. Your mind body connection and resilience build through being constantly broken down. It’s like yoga, you think you’re never going to be able to do a certain challenging asana, then a decade later you suddenly do it without even trying and are shocked to find yourself even in it (or is that just me haha).
Life is just like this, we have to keep at it, over and over – and each time it’s an opportunity. When we are in it, it can seem unlikely, and we don’t have a yoga studio or a karate dojo to go to for it so it can get confusing as the training can seem relentless on a daily basis infiltrating our work and our relationships. But our life is our mental dojo, and our workplace our studio, and every single person we grate up against, are our teachers.
What would life feel like if you greeted the day like that. Would you begin to welcome the honing of your resilience or resist it every turn?
