Something in me shifted when I was at the Buddhist hermitage, without technology, or speech…or much eye contact. I re-learnt how to just sit and be. Our phones, iPads and laptops are such terrible thieves of the present moment. And as much as I coach myself and others on being aware of it, it just damn catches up on us, we hand over our lives to them.
It has been the thing I have noticed the most since returning to London, how much everyone is on their phones, and how much time is being wasted on something that means we are not there for the life that is there for us, right here and now. How much we wash through our hours that make up our days, days we cannot ever get back. I don’t imagine any of us will lie on our deathbeds, should we in fact be lucky to have that experience, and think, I am so very happy I spent so much time on my devices.
Let’s be conscious of every sixty minutes, as each one passes, each new future is upon us.
Written with love,
