One of the simplest and most effective tools I am ALWAYS banging on about, aside from Integrated Meditation, is powering down all tech before bed. If we look at any device, computer, TV screen, in the hour before bed we reduce the quality of our sleep by 30%. So if you’re getting 8 hours a night (hat tip, you’re extending your life span dramatically), by looking at tech, you’re reducing the quality of that sleep by 3 hours, and therefore undermining that 8 hours.
Power Down Hour is something that you can do FOR FREE, that is remarkably effective. And in that hour before bed, as you wind down naturally, you can bathe, read a book, have a conversation, drink some herbal tea (my current fav is Greek Mountain Tea, get your hands on some), ponder, contemplate, review the day, journal. As humans we were never built to be this connected to tech, and the impacts on our brains, our minds, our clarity and creativity, frankly terrify me.
