At times, with all the noise of the external world raining down on us, the technology and the news and the politics and the and, and, and…we must return to our presence through simplicity with our smaller tasks. In Zen, the saying is when chopping wood, chop wood. For us in the modern world, this can also be when making tea make tea AND when sending email, send email. Meaning removing all the flitting between phone, email, chat, thought, reminder. Just sitting still, and sending the email. Not standing in line waiting for coffee-overhearing conversation-pondering do I get a snack too-nodding hello-sending email.
JUST, sending email. JUST making tea. SIMPLY reading the newspaper. SIMPLY listening to our kids recall their day. Standing in the shower utterly present. Driving the car, all there. In the very boring Zoom meeting, all, there. There for all of the bits we like and the bits we don’t – for it is all, our life.
With love,
