I recently read this passage from the Tao Te Ching, in respond to a wonderful student’s question, at a recent Integrated Meditation course. It reflects why we meditate in the first place. With only activity, only thinking, only doing, there is no space.
We must cultivate inner space. We must recognise that the universe’s energy directs us. That natures intelligence and things outside of our control, are a part of the play. Do you know what is inside a fig seed pod? The thing that grows an entire fig tree? Same goes with an oak pod. It’s nothing. There’s just a little space in there. Yet with the right conditions from nature, that little space with its tiny husk, will grow into a magnificent tree.
We are like this seed pod, emptiness with a tiny husk. We forget in our business. We don’t work with the laws of nature, respect our emotional, relationships and careers seasonality. We bludgeon our way through, ‘making it happen’ or ‘rising and grinding’. It’s time to make time for emptiness, for inner space, and to work from our centre, the place that turns the world.
Sent with love,
