I sometimes look at my dogs, sleeping away in the sun and think; nice for some. It can be nice for all of us in truth but we have to own it. When did we forget to rest? When did we begin to think that we were invincible, disconnected from nature, our own nature and immune to needing to rest?
Being in Europe, I am reminded of the power of a siesta. A long lunch. Time to sit around at the end of the meal. A mandarin peeled on hot steps, watching the world go by. Lying under a tree reading as the leaves shuffle lazily above in a breeze.
We all love to rest on vacation, but we must also learn to rest every day. Deeply, to give ourselves the space to BE and not just DO all the time. Meditation grants us this deep rest, and is an excellent foundation in which to invite in more rest so we can ultimately work harmoniously on who we are, as well as all that we do.
