L E T T E R – The Ways Of The Mind

This quote is for me literally something to live by ‘Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth’. We need constant reminding of these as we have SO many cognitive biases that are shadowing our every interaction with the world. Yet, at times hilariously, we fancy ourselves as rational beings. Most of these biases, our ideas of the world and who we are within it, were formed before we turned seven. So it’s from a rather unsophisticated standpoint that we navigate our lives if we break it down.

What if instead we considered the enormity of our programming. What if we approached everything with curiosity. I like to think of everything, every relationship, every project, every course I teach, every interactions; as an experiment. It takes the heat off me ‘getting it right’, which involves pushing and forcing, and allows me to relax into being present and open. Which allows for creativity to flourish. And when our mind isn’t entangled in biases, consciousness can flow through us more easily.

Experimenting is fluid and there’s less pressure. Additionally, we are less likely to form expectations and ideas and block ourselves to better outcomes that are trying to come through. Things that we miss because we had an agenda.

Keep this in mind all this week and see how open to peeling back opinions and perspectives you can be, and then experiment and have some fun.

Sent with love,
