I was terribly bullied as a little kid and again as a teenager. And now teaching meditation to lots of kids, and having one myself, I see all the time how brutal being a child can be. And I try to teach them it takes two to tango. One person to bully, and another to agree to be bullied. One person to be nasty and cruel, and the other to buy into the cruelty agree to be hurt by it.
It doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt, and we are immune to emotions and responses. It does mean though that we get to choose to what degree are we going to continue to engage with feeling terrible, to allowing the mind to chew on it over and over, and to believe all the terrible things said, and all the awful things our mind then repeats back to us.
No one can make us feel anything really, without our agreeing to it.
