Nick Hudson I have known for quite some time, although I haven’t seen him for years now as he resides in New York and concentrates on his successful career in the cut throat world of photography. He’s been meditating for a lot longer than I, and I still remember the first time I heard him chat about meditation at a friend’s party, and a friend saying afterwards ‘ I can’t believe such a cool guy does something as odd as meditate’….that same friend now meditates. The times they are a-changing!
Where do you currently live?
New York City.
What currently keeps you busy?
Work, spending time with friends, travel.
What do you do to stay healthy, and live a balanced lifestyle?
I’m happier when I’m healthy and healthier when I’m happy. Exercise, yoga, meditation, good food, getting out of the city and into nature, and staying engaged socially are all important elements for me. I’m currently not a great example of balanced. I’m a little too work-centric at the moment, and I’m craving more time in nature.
How do you approach meditation?
I’ve been practicing Vedic Meditation/TM for 14 years. My intention is to meditate twice daily. It doesn’t always happen, and I don’t give myself a hard time when it doesn’t.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Meditate. Breakfast. Coffee. Exercise (gym, yoga or walk). Work. See some art or a film. Dinner/drink with friend(s) or stay in and cook and read or watch a film.
What do you do daily that is non negotiable?
Aside from the essential things that keep me alive, nothing is non negotiable. However, meditation followed by my morning coffee comes pretty close.
How do you define creativity?
Creative energy is the universal life force/intelligence that is at the basis of all things. Creativity is the process of allowing that force/intelligence to flow through the filter of our individuality and the interface of whatever we’re engaging with. Creativity is self expression.
I love the way Steve Jobs describes creativity: “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.”
What brings you the most joy in your life?
Love. Connecting with people. Creative collaboration. Being in nature. The
ocean. Art. FIlm. Music. Amazing food. Travel.
What do you define as happiness?
Happiness is one of the shades on the spectrum of emotions. Emotions are like the weather. We all love the sunshine, but it wouldn’t be as much fun without the rain.
What do you consider your greatest achievement to be?
Surviving life this long whilst remaining relatively sane.
What qualities do you seek in people?
I’m drawn to people with a generosity of spirit, openness, and warmth. People that are curious, and can laugh at the absurdity of it all.
What is a saying or motto you live by or that is relevant to you right now?
“There is always some madness in love. But there is also some reason in madness.” Friedrich Nietsche
